    How we size it

    Five answers and we can specify the system.

    Anode selection is not a catalogue lookup. Current demand is set by the electrolyte and the coating, and anode life is set by the current. These are the inputs we need.

    1 — The structure

    Material, dimensions and surface area. Buried pipeline, above-grade tank, clarifier, reinforced concrete, submerged steel — each changes the geometry of the current path.

    2 — The electrolyte

    Soil resistivity in ohm-centimetres, or the water chemistry inside the tank. This single number drives ground bed design more than anything else on the list.

    3 — Coating condition

    A well-coated line needs a fraction of the current a bare one does. Age, type and known holidays let us estimate the real demand rather than the theoretical one.

    4 — Power available

    Grid power at the site, or none? No service means an off-grid PV package rather than a conventional rectifier, and that changes the whole current budget.

    5 — What is already there

    Existing anodes, rectifiers, test stations and any potential readings you have. Retrofitting into a live system is a different problem from a green-field design.
